What is the Primary Purpose of a Homeowner Association?
An HOA exists to provide services for the residents of a community and ensure it maintains the vision of a well-kept, organized community that maintains the property values and all members can enjoy living in.
The Bottom Line
Living in a planned development – and being governed in part by the rules of an HOA – can be a mixed blessing. It offers the prospect of exchanging some control over your home/lot for the reduced responsibilities of maintaining the common areas and for the benefit of enjoying shared amenities and security; think gates, swimming pool, waste water treatment plant to name the big 3. However, you’ll need to be comfortable trading the diverse look of a typical neighborhood for a more uniform appearance and the work it requires.
How well you embrace those tradeoffs will contribute to how happy you’ll be in one.
Let’s look at the DUTY TO REPAIR AND MAINTAIN: WEEDS AND TRASH
Members shall, at their sole expense, repair and maintain their lots and any improvements to their lots: Members shall keep their lots free and clear of all weeds, debris and rubbish (including rubbish dumped by others), and shall keep shrubs, trees, grass and planter beds neatly maintained, watered, cultivated and free of weeds.
Some folks need to open their eyes on the way to the car and see what a mess is there. It’s trashy and reflects badly, not only on you but on all the rest of us as well. Our grounds crew is not here to tend your weed crop, be it dead or alive. In your private yard they will mow and blow. Period! You can hire another gardener to tend to your mess or you can do it yourself, but it must be done!!! So get up out of that recliner and DO something. You’re not more tired than anybody else.
